My Design Prospective
I’m Olivia Duo, a graphic designer who doesn’t just create, but questions, refines, and reworks until something feels right.
I hold an AAS degree in Graphic Design from North Hennepin Community College.
As a designer, I tend to overthink almost everything, but that’s where my precision comes from. In design, that overthinking becomes intention. I double-plan, test different directions, and make more changes than most, because I care about how something looks, feels, and communicates. For me, it’s never just about finishing, it’s about getting it right. I’m drawn to work that feels expressive, thoughtful, and a little different. I don’t like design that feels flat or expected, I like it to have presence.
The way I am naturally shows up in my work. I pay attention to details, I question things, and I don’t settle easily, and that translates directly into how I design. I like my work to feel intentional, layered, and considered, not rushed or surface-level. Every choice has a reason, even if it takes time to get there.
One of my biggest strengths is my attention to detail and my ability to stay with an idea until it fully develops. I don’t rush creative decisions, I explore, test, and refine until everything feels aligned. I’m also highly visual, which allows me to quickly turn concepts into something tangible. At the same time, I’m aware that my tendency to overthink can slow me down. But instead of seeing that as a weakness, I’ve learned how to manage it and turn it into part of my process. It pushes me to be more intentional, more precise, and more thoughtful in the work I create.
Graphic design, for me, was never just about making things look good, it was about bringing ideas to life. I’ve always seen things beyond what they are, imagining how they could feel, look, or exist differently. Design gave me a way to turn those thoughts into something real. What I love most is the ability to create something from nothing, to take a concept and shape it into something visual, functional, and meaningful. It’s not just creativity, it’s problem-solving, storytelling, and experience all in one. I don’t believe in creating just to create. Everything I design has intention behind it. My approach is rooted in exploration, refinement, and meaning, but I also don’t believe design belongs in a box. There isn’t one “right” way for something to look, feel, or exist. I think design should be experimented with, sometimes messy, sometimes clean, sometimes unexpected. It should be expressive, flexible, and open to change. I don’t believe there’s such a thing as “this is how it has to be” or “this is the only way it works.” For me, design is about trying, exploring, and pushing past what’s considered normal until something feels right.
That mindset doesn’t just stay in my work, it reflects how I think in general. I naturally question things, challenge what’s expected, and look for different ways to approach something instead of settling for what’s already been defined. To me, good design isn’t about fitting into a standard, it’s about creating something that actually feels like something. Design should evolve, not be trapped

Outside of design, I’ve always been drawn to creating in different forms. I don’t really separate creativity from everyday life, it shows up in how I think, what I notice, and the way I approach ideas. I spend a lot of time developing concepts beyond the screen, whether that’s building brand ideas, thinking through business directions, or creating full “what if” scenarios that could exist in real life. I enjoy taking something small and expanding it into something structured, intentional, and complete.
I also have a strong interest in interior design and enjoy shaping spaces in a way that feels cohesive and lived in. I pay attention to how a space flows, how elements connect, and how it can create a certain atmosphere. That same attention to detail and feeling directly reflects how I approach design.
Writing is another part of my creative process. I’ve always been someone who builds stories in my head, imagining emotions, characters, and different outcomes. Over time, I started turning those ideas into my own books, using writing as a way to give form to thoughts that naturally come to me.
Even in smaller things, like crocheting or exploring new ideas, I find myself drawn to the process, taking time, refining details, and building something from start to finish. I tend to be patient with what I create, and I care about how it comes together in the end.
All of these interests connect back to how I think as a person. I don’t just accept what something is, I question it, explore it, and think about what it could become. That mindset carries into everything I do, both inside and outside of design.
